Hello! My name is Joy Holland and I am a multimedia artist based in Northern California. My artwork is inspired by ancient geometry and Vedic astrology.

For generations my ancestors wielded the compass and ruler in the tradition of masonry. The Masonic order collected myths and rituals from around the world and chained the wisdom of all peoples and used it for the profit and gains of the few. Masonry goes hand in hand with colonialism. As we decolonize we are left with the environmental and cultural destruction from capitalism. My hope is that we find ourselves in new dawn ripe with innovation and connection. My post industrial ancestors were lost and fell to vice and abuse. When the torch was handed to me I refused it and committed to cultivating a life of respect and consent. Several years ago the compass and ruler found its way into my life to create sacred geometry. Every yantra has a story and wants to share its wisdom. When I open myself up to them transformation happens.
My current collections consist of mosaics, vintage maps, Yantras, Islamic geometry, Vedic remedies and film photography.

Mosaics
Creating mosaic Yantras is a healing process of taking broken chaos and transforming it into symmetric art. Each broken piece of glass laid down to form sacred geometry forges a new pathway in my mind and celebrates our collective journey here on earth. A babies first breath, a poppy opening at dawn, a frog leaping from the bank, lovers embraced, a volcano erupting and a loved one dying in the presence of family.
